Meet Dr. Swelstad

 Dr. Swelstad was raised in northeast Wisconsin and attended high school in the small farm community of Pulaski. His love of friends, family, and rural life developed during his years in Pulaski.

Dr. Swelstad attended college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a concentration in physiology. During college, Dr. Swelstad was actively involved in student government, water polo, and independent research. After completing his undergraduate degree in the big city, he opted for a change-of-pace and lived and worked in Alaska as a licensed Big Game Hunting Guide. After his Alaska adventure, he worked as the CEO of World Ski Inc, a progressive upstart ski company, where he helped to design, patent, and manufacture a new generation of skis which ultimately revolutionized the entire ski industry.
 
Dr. Swelstad graduated in 2001 from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (D.D.S.) and graduated as valedictorian of his class. He was elected into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society. Following dental school, he continued his specialty education at the University of Detroit-Mercy, where he completed his research thesis and earned his Master’s degree and certificate in Orthodontics. He is currently a member of several dental and orthodontic societies including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Michigan Dental Association. Dr. Swelstad has received awards from the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association.
 
Dr. Swelstad is very passionate about orthodontics and dedicated to providing the highest quality care in a relaxed and comfortable environment. He regularly attends continuing education courses and strives to stay at the forefront of orthodontic technology. He believes in customizing treatment to best meet the demands of each patient’s different needs. He is proficient with multiple orthodontic treatment systems, including the Damon System, Speed System, Invisalign™, and Herbst therapy. He maintains offices in Cadillac and Big Rapids, to conveniently service patients throughout northwest Michigan. His newly renovated office, overlooking Lake Cadillac, was designed with patient comfort and convenience in mind. His practice is committed to excellence and dedicated to helping patients attain long term satisfaction in their dental comfort, appearance and function.
 
Dr. Swelstad lives in the area with his wife, Louise, and seven young children. When not practicing orthodontics, Dr. Swelstad enjoys many hobbies including bird watching, beekeeping, maple-sugaring, gardening, hunting, canoeing, camping, and most of all – spending time with his wife and children.
